About Those Cows
This weekend, the good fellas of WICKED AWESOME FILMS and I headed north to Phil's Livestock & Equipment in beautiful Piru, California to interview some cows about GLEN WEXLER's new book "The Secret Life of Cows." Now, I studied veterinary medicine and animal sciences in what feels like a lifetime ago. Working on this book project has tapped a part of my memory I've not needed to recall in ages (save for that one time on a film set when an actor's horse was deathly ill and the producers needed someone who could talk the [farm] talk just enough to set his mind at ease so they could get on with the shoot).
Anyway, we had a fantastic time "on set" at the ranch. I got the chance to wrangle some cattle (read: bribe them with feed and hay) to help keep them out of sight while the guys were interviewing Georgia (who we cast for the role of "Nancy" in our little film).
I can't wait to see how the video turns out!
As for the book--
"THE SECRET LIFE OF COWS." will be released through Andrews McMeel Universal and will be available online and in bookstores everywhere on March 7th. More on this soon...
ClipSync reviewed by PC Mag's Kyle Monson
PC Mag's Kyle Monson took some time to sit down with ClipSync CEO Itzik Cohen and Director of Product Development, Sam Baron to discuss the newly launched online video / chat site. You can see the interview HERE
ClipSync.com syncs you with your friends and your favorite online video content (no matter what site it's on--YouTube, Google, MetaCafe, etc.). So it's essentially like watching tv together with your friends in your living room--except the
concept, of course, is for video online.
ClipSync spent all of 2006 in beta developing the site features under the name Abazab.com. They worked with Director Dan Myrick (Blair Witch) to hold online auditions and to cast his upcoming film The Objective and sponsored the 4th Annual Latin Rap Conference in NYC this Fall along with others such as Billboard Magazine, Fuerte Group, etc. A few short weeks ago, ClipSync.com came out of beta and officially launched.
ClipSync has already been named one of the top disruptors of media by the AlwaysOn Network and ClipSync CEO Itzik Cohen spoke at the OnMedia Conference in New York January 30th. Itzik, a former pro baller and one of the original WebEx guys, started the company after watching his son IM YouTube links to and from friends. He wanted to give him a way to watch the
clips together with his friends at the same time, while having the ability to chat about it while they were watching. Check out ClipSync HERE
Los Angeles Turned UK Band ORSON Take Home a Brit
Our long lost but never forgotten friends ORSON took home a Brit [last] week for Best International Breakthrough Artist!!! Though their music is now available in the US on iTunes and their single "No Tomorrow" became the most downloaded Single of the Week in Apple's iTunes history, they've yet to break through the often fickle US market. The last year and a half has seen Orson touring worldwide with the likes of Duran Duran and Robbie Williams before headlining their own tour in 2006.
Things seem to be coming together Finally. I wonder if those of us back in the States that have anxiously anticipated their return home, perhaps, with this new found and overdue accolade will finally be treated a US Tour?? I suppose we will see.
You can see them accepting their award, posted on their MySpace Blog HERE

The D!ve Opens in Hollywood
If you missed the Grand Opening of Hollywood's The D!ve last night for shame! The event was to start at 7pm, but began to fill up by 6:30p and continued full steam ahead 'til closing (lots of impromptu dancing ensued late night). Showcasing nearly their entire menu of "World Class Comfort Food," great draft beer (Peroni, Pilsner Urquell...) and the vast array of mixed and muddled fresh fruit-infused concoctions (my favorites: "Smashed Cucumbers" and "Smoking Cactus"), The D!ve proved to be the best check-your-ego-at-the-door / let your hair down destination.
The extraordinary yet non-pretentious pizza selections (The Dream Pizza is my declared favorite) to the Claypot specials (check out the Triple C Stew) and damn good burgers have transformed what was formerly Highland Grounds into a true nightspot. Finally!
It's newly vibed out design and low key atmosphere make the D!ve a great venue for kickin' back with a champagne bucket full of Miller High Life after the shoot or grubbin' with a bunch of your closest friends (your REAL friends not your "LA Friends").
For the lonely hearts, or at least the cynical ones, The D!ve will host a Valentine-Free Zone on Feb 14th. See you there!
